COOK ISLANDS | Spear Fisherman (55 images)

Popo is a Cook Islander born and bred on Rarotonga Island. Two to three times a week Popo dons his wetsuit, flippers and mask and with his spear gun swims out into Rutaki Passage to spear fish. Popo typically spears 20-30 tropical fish during each session, which can last upwards of 3-hours. In true Polynesian fashion, the fish are shared with the extended family, providing an important source of fresh meat to the family's diet.
